After obtaining her undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery, Professor Antonella Polimeni specialized in Dental Medicine and Orthodontics. From 2000 to 2009, Prof. Polimeni was the Chair of the Evaluation Board of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of La Sapienza University of Rome. In 2002, she became Director of the second-level master’s degree program in Dental Medicine in the Developing Years. From 2007 to 2013, Prof. Polimeni was the Director of the Department of the Science of Dental Medicine of La Sapienza University and from 2010 to 2015, she acted as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. From 2010 to 2014 she was the Chair of the Association of University Lecturers in Dental Medicine. In 2011, she was appointed expert by the Ongoing Education in Medicine National Commission for the evaluation of research projects relating to the 2010 tender “Research and development of innovative methods in ongoing education” within the framework of the Ongoing Education in Medicine program. In 2011, she also became a member of the Expert Evaluator Group for Scientific Disciplinary Sector MED28 appointed by ANVUR (the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems) for the exercise Research Quality Assessment 2004-2010. From 2012 to 2016, Prof. Polimeni was a member of the technical group for dentistry appointed by the Italian Ministry of Health.
Currently, Prof. Polimeni is a full professor at La Sapienza University of Rome and a member of the Board of Directors of La Sapienza University representing full professors. She is the Director of the Head-Neck Integrated Activity Department of Umberto I General Hospital – La Sapienza University and the Coordinator of Ph.D. studies in Innovative Technologies for Diseases of the Skin, Skeleton and Oro-Craniofacial Area as well as Director of the School of Paediatric Dentistry of La Sapienza University. In addition, she is the Chair of the Italian Society of Dental Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery, Deputy Chair of the Standing Council of Colleges and Universities (Medical Area) and Director of the Paediatric Dentistry and Dental Medicine Complex Operating Unit of Umberto I General Hospital. Prof. Polimeni is the Director of the second-level inter-departmental master’s degree program in Integrated Health and Safety Management in the Evolving Workplace created by La Sapienza University in collaboration with INAIL, Italy’s national workplace insurance agency. She has authored more than 400 scientific publications and she is a member of the Editorial Review Board of numerous Italian and international publications.
