Dr. Alan Bagden is an experienced orthodontist in Springfield, Va., And is a frequent speaker at seminars around the world, having delivered presentations on all continents of the world except Antarctica. He enjoys dissecting the mechanics of complicated cases and obtaining transformative results in his patients. Dr. Bagden has been a driving force behind the development of the Ormco Damon System and Insignia Advanced Smile Design products.
Dr. Bagden graduated from Lafayette College, after which he attended the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, obtaining his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD). After completing his mandatory service as a dentist for the United States Public Health Service, he was proposed and admitted to the orthodontic residence of the University of Maryland. After his certification as an orthodontist, he joined Dr. William Wallert in practice and both were pioneers, implementing multiple techniques efficiently.
In 2001, he collaborated with Dr. Dwight Damon on the development and training of the Damon Self-Liabilities system. Together they wrote the definitive passive ligature guide, The Damon Workbook, in 2003. Since then, he has traveled to more than 45 countries and has presented more than 300 Damon System seminars, from the general session of the American Association of Orthodontists to clubs of Study in Wellington, New Zealand. He is a Key Opinion Leader of Ormco corporation and one of the few doctors with the Educator Certificate in the Damon System. It also has the Insignia Elite Provider certificate.
Dr. Bagden is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He has served as president of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists and the Northern Virginia Dental Society. He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Honorary Dental Society and the American College of Dentists in recognition of his contribution to the orthodontic profession. An avid runner, he qualified and competed in the Boston Marathon as well as in multiple and demanding long distance runs. He, along with his wife, Kathy, are the proud parents of five children and grandparents of three granddaughters.
